Discussion Questions:

  1. Would you recommend  this book to someone? Why or why not?
  2. Who is the author and what is their background or experience in relation to the book?
  3. Why do you think the author wrote this book? What was their purpose or goal?
  4. How much do you think the author's personal views or biases influenced the book and how do you feel about that?
  5. How thought provoking did you find the book? Did the book change your opinion about anything, or did you learn something new from it? If so, what?
  6. How, if at all, did this book relate to your own life? Did it evoke any memories or connections for your?
  7. What were some of your favorite scenes from the book? Why did they stand out to you?
  8. What was the most challenging or difficult part of the book for you to read or understand? How did you overcome it?
  9. Do the words and illustrations work together to tell the story? Or is the story more in either the words or illustrations?
  10. What do the illustrations tell you about the characters or setting?
  11. How does the artist use color to tell the story?
  12. How are the panels framed? Are the subjects shown up close or far away?
