Ethnic Studies x Literature

This Chicana/o/Latina/o American literature LibGuide is part of a larger LibGuide meant to provide a focus on American literature through the lens of Ethnic Studies, which focuses on the knowledge, experience, struggle, and community building within the disciplines four key group: African Americans, Asian Americans, Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x Americans, and Native/Indigenous Americans. Users of this LibGuide might include SMC students, particularly Ethnic Studies and English Literature majors, faculty within a variety of departments, visiting researchers, graduate students, particularly those in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o/Latina/o American Studies, Comparative Literature, Creative Writing, and American Cultural Studies.  

The purpose of this LibGuide beyond the general gathering and organizing of resources is to hopefully provide a robust representation of Chicana/o/Latina/o American literature to influence a reimagining of the American literary canon, including not only the already canonized works of authors such as Rodolfo Anaya, Lorna Dee Cervantes, Luis Valdez, Gloria Anzaldua, Sandra Cisneros, and others, but to provide insight into contemporary works, genre works, and evolving developments in literary criticism that should be influencing our greater understanding of American and English language literature. Most importantly, this LibGuide will lay the foundation for continued contributions, and will hopefully become a living document and a space for collaboration.
