Is academic freedom an absolute right? How do you balance the societal interest – or moral imperative – in ensuring education is affordable for students with a faculty member’s freedom to select the resources they believe to be best for the curriculum? Join us as we navigate the intersections of societal interests, faculty purview, academic freedom, and OER. All questions, comments, and conundrums are welcome.
Now entering its fourth year, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Summer Book Club is excited to announce this year’s book selection, Academic Ableism: Disability and Higher Education (Corporealities: Discourses of Disability) by Jay T. Dolmage. The title was selected by the CCCOER community who were invited to vote on several books nominated by the EDI Committee. We invite everyone interested in the intersection of OER and EDI to join us this summer as we explore ableism in higher education, which, according to the author, “renders disability as abject, invisible, disposable, less than human, while able-bodiedness is represented as at once ideal, normal, and the mean or default.”
Synchronous meetings are held on Thursdays, 3 PM Eastern/2 PM Central/1 PM Mountain/12 PM Pacific/9 AM Hawaii-Aleutian Time. Sessions are 1.5 hours in length. Registration is required for these meetings. Asynchronous discussions will be offered via OEG Connect.
What is ADAPT and what resources currently exist for the courses you teach? In this webinar you will learn how to navigate ADAPT, search for existing resources, and modify resources created by others.
Information on the series: ADAPT, the open homework system within LibreTexts, allows users to build formative and summative assessments using WebWork, H5P, or Native QTI. It is also possible to create accessible alternatives to questions and assessments. Faculty are continually developing and sharing new questions and activity types, so the way in which you can assess your students’ learning is endless.
In addition to providing a place to access and create assessments, ADAPT is also a tool for connecting open homework systems to the Canvas gradebook. This series of webinars is intended to introduce users to ADAPT. Each hands-on one-hour webinar is followed by 30 minutes for questions and answers.
All attendees will need to create a free ADAPT instructor account to fully participate in these webinars.
How do you access ADAPT?
Instructor ADAPT Registration (https://adapt.libretexts.org/register/instructor)
In this webinar, you will learn how to create auto-graded activities in ADAPT, featuring various question types like fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, true or false, select choice, and matching that are accessible and adaptable.
Having created assessments in ADAPT, how can you integrate them into Canvas? Explore ADAPT’s seamless integration with Canvas grades.
